Famous Crab Bee Hoon @ Sin Huat (Singapore Day 1)

The first time I heard of Sin Huat Eating House was from Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations". The huge crabs and the way Mr. Bourdain devoured all the dishes made me drool that I made it a point to visit this place when I was in Singapore.

Arriving in Geylang, Sin Huat is probably the most expensive "Coffee Shop" in the area if not in Singapore for Crab Bee Hoon. After a 15 minute wait the owner Mr. Danny tended to our table and recommended us a few more dishes in addition to his famous Crab Bee Hoon.

Our first plate was the assorted Chinese BBQ platter of Roast Pork, BBQ Pork Ribs and Chinese Sausage. All three were mediocre in our view.

Next came our Steam Scallops that was drenched in a special Garlic Sauce Blend. The scallops were juicy and sweet. We all felt however there was too much sauce on the scallops.

Steam Prawns with Garlic Sauce however were excellent! The prawns were perfectly cooked and laid out beautifully on the plate. The garlic sauce was delicious! It wasn't too garlicky and had a flavor that I cannot describe.

Our fourth dish was Steam Calamari with the same Garlic Sauce as the prawns. The calamari was also really good because of the sauce.

Vegetables were also good. Although it was a little oily it had a nice oyster sauce and ginger flavor and still retained some crunch.

Stir-Fried Greens

Our crab finally came after all the dishes. We were quite stuffed and only managed to eat half of it. The noodles had a nice chewy texture and the sauce was coated nicely. But somehow it lacked some kick. The crabs were big but they weren't as sweet as the local crabs. Maybe it's because we were full but the crabs did not blow our mind away as I hoped it would.

Overall the meal was good but the price was very steep and cost us SGD 328. We left a little disappointed with the Crab Bee Hoon which we so badly wanted to try in the first place. However, anyone visiting the restaurant do order his prawns with garlic sauce. This is probably the best garlic sauce I ever had.
