Really good MCDANG rated Thai Restaurant

A day after our forgettable dinner cruise I was hard pressed on trying to show Sam that Bangkok is indeed a place for great food and service. I was planning to take him to Krua Apsorn but my plans changed when Ken insisted we try this really good restaurant that serves a mean Pomfret Hot Pot. Reluctant at first I finally gave in.

It was quite a drive to get to the place because we were staying in the Sukhumvit area and the restaurant was located in Ratchada. Finding it was also tough because the restaurant is tucked away in a quiet and fairly new residential area.

The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the huge MCDANG signboard showing his rating of this restaurant. For those of you who don't know MCDANG, he is one of Thailand's famous food critic and appeared on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" where he took Bourdain to sample the suckling pig at Tang Jai Yoo.

Our food came within minutes of our order and immediately I can see why this was recommended by MCDANG and my cousin. The Oyster Omelet was one of the best I've had in Thailand. The oysters were big, the omelet was fluffy and most important of all it wasn't soaked in oil.

Their Curry Crab was also very good. The crabs had a lot of meat and like the omelet it wasn't oily at all.

A simple dish such as Stir-Fry Pea Shoots was very well executed. The Pea Shoots had a nice crunch and the addition of a few chili slices gave the dish a nice spicy flavor.

Tom Yam Goong came next and it was also good. The prawns weren't overcooked and the soup wasn't too spicy nor sour.

Last but not least was my cousin's highly recommended Pomfret Hot Pot which came with a fresh Pomfret, pepper soup and deep fried fish skin. After boiling the pomfret we would each pour some of the delicious soup, a slice of pomfret and a piece of fish skin into our bowls. I loved the spicy flavor of the pepper soup and the texture contrast between the smooth pomfret and crispy fish skin.

We were really satisfied with our meal that night. The service was good and the food. The name and contact information of the restaurant is in Thai and I can't read Thai. In case any of you might want to try this place I have taken a photo of the contact information for your reference. Just print this and show it to your cab driver he should know where it is.

The eating crew!
