I was in Scarborough for a Bank Meeting and decided to stop by Midland and Finch for lunch. Derek who was with me at the time recommended Szechuan Legend for serving up decent Dim Sum at an affordable price.
I was confused at first wondering what Szechuan Dim Sum was but soon realized that the restaurant serves up typical Cantonese Dim Sum with a variety of Northern Dim Sum dishes such as Meat Dumplings and Beef Wrapped in Chinese Pancake.
With Kazu dropping by we ordered a number of Dim Sum dishes to sample. The Cha Leong wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't as crispy as the higher end Dim Sum places.
The Har Kow were decent. It had big chunks of prawns which I loved but the skin was a little too thick. Siu Mai on the other hand was a little too chewy in texture almost having a texture of a minced pork ball. It might have contained a little too much corn starch.
For chicken we had Steamed Chicken Feet, Chicken and Vegetable Buns and Chicken in Glutinous Rice. The skin of the chicken feet was really soft and tasted very good. The buns and glutinous rice however were so so.
Derek also ordered Fried Milk Custard. This is something I don't usually order but it was really good here. The milk custard had a very soft texture almost like a mango pudding and wasn't overly too sweet. The batter is very crispy which is a nice contrast in texture.
Last we also ordered a bowl of Pork Bone Soup with Seaweed. The soup was a little on the sweet side and did not contain as much pork bones as I hoped.
I left for my meeting before the meal came but if I recall correctly, most of the dishes were around CAD $1.80. The dim sum at Szechuan Legend is definitely not the best but it is definitely better than Silk Road or China House in Bangkok. And for the price it is definitely good value for anyone looking for some decent Dim Sum.
