The restaurant was impressively big with four floors. The ground floor housed the kitchen where diners can visit and choose from a wide variety of fresh seafood and real food samples of the entire menu. This to me was a great idea because foreign diners who can't read Chinese will get a glimpse of all the dishes available (there's at least a hundred) and pick what catches their eye!
We ordered a few small dishes to share beginning with some local prawns that were simply poached and served with a soy sauce on the side.
We also ordered their local "Yellow Fish" that was cooked with some soup and sour mustard greens. Like most river fishes it contained a lot of bones but the meat was flaky and very fresh. The soup however was my favorite. It was milky and rich in flavor from all the hours of boiling and the mustard greens added a nice sour note to it.
Steamed Shanghainese Crabs came next and it was in my opinion mediocre. The crabs did not have much meat and the egg whites were a little overcooked. I much prefer the Flower Crabs from Malaysia which packs more meat and flavor.
For meat we settled on some meat balls which was definitely not a local dish. Stir-Fried with some Ketchup the balls were quite good.
Guan Yin Vegetables with Garlic came last and was decent. Locally grown the vegetables have a purplish tint on its leaves. It had the texture and taste that is similar to that of Yu Choi.
The portions weren't big and was satisfying enough for lunch. I don't know how much it cost because my supplier covered it. There are a lot more dishes I would love to try and will do when I come back to Ningbo again.
