Famous Char Koay Teow @ Kafe Heng Huat

Recently, my friends from Hong Kong were over for a 4 day eating trip in KL and asked if we could stop by Penang for a day trip thinking it was only an hour or so from KL!

I was obviously very reluctant since the drive there would take approximately 3 hours assuming if traffic is smooth. But I eventually gave in after having thoughts of eating good Char Koay Teow!

There are many "Famous Char Koay Teow" stalls in Penang, many with their own legion of supporters. However with only one meal to spare in Penang we decided to visit Kafe Heng Huat and try out the famous Sister's Char Koay Teow.

The Char Koay Teow cost a whopping RM9 and took 30 minutes but it was well worth it. The Prawns were large and the Soy-Sauce Mixture was stir-fried into the Koay Teow so well making it very flavorful without leaving the Koay Teow limp and soaked in oil.

Oh Chien (Oyster Omelet)
O-Chien (Oyster Omelet)
We ordered the O-Chien from a neighboring Hawker Store. The oysters were plump and fresh and were cooked just right. The Omelet was fluffy but a little on the soggy side.

Otak-Otak (Minced Fish Cake)

This was also ordered from the Oh Chien store. The Otak-Otak was not bad. It was quite aromatic from the spices and had a nice contrast in texture between the minced Fish Paste and chunks of Fish Meat.

Ais Batu Campur (Malaysian-Style Shaved Ice)
ABC
We ordered this for dessert. It wasn't too sweet but was lacking in condiments such as Kidney Beans, Peanuts and Grass Jelly. Nevertheless it was a refreshing way to end our meal.

Despite the really short time spent in Penang we managed to take in some of the sights around George Town. This is definitely my first and last time doing a day-trip to Penang.
