Gam Ja Tang @ Owl of Minerva, North York

I'm finally back in Toronto after 3 months and arrived just in time for a late dinner. Having been based in Malaysia for the past three months the weather was cold and so I headed to The Owl of Minerva for some Gam Ja Tang to warm me up.

Assorted Cold Dishes
Bean Sprouts
Kim Chi and Pickled Raddish

Gom Tang
Gom Tang
I wanted to go light and regretted ordering this. Like all Korean Clear Soup Dishes it was very bland almost tasting like water soaked with some Beef Brisket Slices and Rice Cakes. I had to add quite a bit of Salt to give it a little more flavor.

Gam Ja Tang

This is what Owl is famous for their Gam Ja Tang. A Concoction of Kimchi broth, Szehcuan Peppercorns, Potatoes and Spring Onion with fall of the meat Pork Bones to go with a bowl of rice. This is definitely a Winter Warmer. Owl's version is less spicier than many I've had but nevertheless it is full of flavor!

a note: gom tang is supposed to be bland and you are supposed to add a lot of salt and pepper. It's like comfort food. You eat it with really good radish kimchi.
