High-End Hawker Food @ Champ's Bistro, Bangsar Shopping Centre

Located inside the posh Bangsar Shopping Center Champ's menu serves up a number of KL Hawker Favorites and Western Dishes. It was introduced to me by a friend who claims their Char Siew was very good.

Pork Noodle Soup
Pork Noodle Soup
This was one of my favorite. The Broth was full of Pork Flavor and the extra Pork Lard and Fried Garlic added a lot of depth to the overall dish.

Char Siew and Siew Yoke
Char Siew and Siew Yoke
Their Char Siew was excellent. The Pork had a deep caramelized flavor and had a good balance between fat and meat.

Fish Head Bee Hoon
Fish Head Bee Hoon
Their Fish Head Bee Hoon is another favorite dish. The broth was milky and had a nice flavor from the use of Shao Xing Wine.

Beer Batter Pork Chop
Beer Battered Chicken Chop
Surprisingly good. This is probably the Beer Batter used for Fish and Chips. It has a very crisp texture and the Pork was moist inside.

Pork Chop
Pork Chop
The Pork Chop was ok for me. The Meat was a little tender but the Sweet and Sour Sauce was little too sweet for my liking.

Chicken Rice
Chicken Rice
Not a favorite of mine.

Spaghetti Carbonara
Spagheti Carbonara
Their Carbonara Sauce was not very creamy. The Bacon however was crispy and had a good flavor.

If you're looking for some really good Hawker Dishes that's loaded with Pork, Pork Lard and Pork Flavor Champ's is the place to go.

On Friday 11 March 2016, me and my wife decided to try out the Rib Rack at Champs. We had some barbeque pork and a bowl of Fish Head Noodle while we waited for the full rack of ribs that we were told will take 25 min. A beer and some red wine helped to set the scene for the "famous" full rib rack.

When it came, I grabbed the knife and fork and oh Boy....it was so tough that I could not cut it with the first go...I then sliced and pulled of the first rib and realized that it is extremely tough and dry on the inside. We called the manager and he quickly agreed that it is "overcooked". At the same time, our neighbour table who ordered the same a bit earlier, also commented that they had some trouble to chew through their full rack...they left half of the rib behind when they left.

The manager then offered to redo another rib and we agreed, but asked for it to be pack for take away. After another glass of red wine, our full rib rack "take-away" arrived and we paid the full bill and went home. We opened the package and Oh Dear....!!!!! it looks like the same rib that we sent back, only some "clever chef" pre-cut all the pieces and poured on some more basting/sauce...Not very good for a supposedly "good restaurant"...Please don't be ashamed to send back tough old meat from this restaurant...
