The restaurant seating is mostly out in the open and surrounds a podium where a live band sings both traditional and modern Thai Music. The atmosphere alone is definitely worth a try if anyone is visiting Bangkok.
With a menu that seems to cover a lot of various cuisines we ordered a mixed of local Thai and Modified-Chinese food. Thai dishes we had included Tom Yam Goong, Som Tam (Thai Papaya Salad), Salt Baked Fish and Thai Curry Crab.
Worth noting is the Tom Yam Goong. The prawns inside were big and fresh and the soup was richer than the other versions I’ve had because of the added coconut milk.
My favourite was definitely the Thai Curry Crab. The meat of the crab was plump and went well with the tomato-egg based sauce that is flavoured with a hint of curry. Stir-frying the sauce with eggs made it very rich and gave the overall dish a smooth and velvety texture.
Thai-Chinese dishes that we had was Goong Ob Woon Sen (Baked Prawns with glass needles), Fried Prawns with XO Sauce and Stir-Fried Mixed Greens. The mixed-greens were crispy and the oyster-flavoured sauce had the right amount of saltiness.
The Prawns with XO sauce was amazing. The breaded prawns had a light crunchy coating and were tossed in an aromatic and flavourful XO dressing.
Goong Ob Woon Sen was a little disappointing. Compared to other restaurants the prawns were a little over-cooked and the glass noodles were bland because there was not enough sauce for the glass noodles to soak up.
Featured in the movie "Bangkok Dangerous" this place is still unknown to Tourists. Most of the people dining here are locals, which is a good sign of a place serving up good food. The great atmosphere and decent food is definitely makes this restaurant worthwhile to visit. The food is also cheap. Our bill came up to THB 1700 for all the seafood dishes we had.
