Japanese Buffet @ Akina Japanese Cuisine

On my flight back to Toronto, I could not stop thinking about Japanese Food. I haven't had it for quite a while and was craving for a major dose of it.

To satisfy my hunger for Japanese Food I headed to Akina for an all-you-can-eat feast with my friend Ian.

Restaurant Entrance

Like most Japanese buffets in Canada, the food is cooked to order. Comparing with Japanese Buffets in KL such as Iketeru and Shogun, the menu here is extensive and covers a lot of Japanese Food. There is at least 100 items ranging from Tempura, Donburi, Makis, Sushi, Sashimi, Hand Rolls and much much more.

Menu

Our Sashimi and Maki came first. For Sashimi we had Salmon, Red Snapper and Mackerel. All three fishes were very good and did not taste fishy at all.

Sashimi

Maki's were pretty standard and tasted the same as other places.

Different Maki's

We ordered a few meat dishes such as Chicken Teriyaki, Steak Teriyaki, Grilled Beef Tongue and Stir-Fried Pork with Ginger. Both the teriyakis were pretty good. The skin of the chicken was really crispy and the meat tender. The teriyaki sauce was not too sweet and did not overpower the chicken.

Chicken Teriyaki

The steak was cooked medium-well but was surprisingly very tender.

Beef Teriyaki

Grilled Beef Tongue wasn't bad either. Although it is a little over-salted, I enjoyed the chewy texture of the tongue.

Grilled Beef Tongue

The Stir-Fried Pork however was way too oily and salty. The pork belly slices were also over cooked.

Stir Fried Pork and Ginger

I also ordered the Tofu and Fish Head Hotpot which is a favorite of mine. The soup consisted of not just the ingredients above but also shiitake mushrooms, bok choi and carrots. The flavors of all those ingredients were imparted into the soup making it very flavorful and hearty.

Fish Head and Tofu Hot Pot

Another Hot Pot we had was mini Shabu-Shabu. The beef melts in your mouth but we avoided drinking the soup which was filled with beef fat.

Beef Hotpot

For dessert the waitress insisted we try their Mango Pudding and we were glad we did because the pudding was pretty good. It wasn't very sweet and the pudding packed a ton of mango flavor including some mango flesh.

Mango Pudding

We were definitely stuffed from all the food we had and the price for two was CAD $45 including tips and taxes. In my opinion this one of the better Japanese Buffets in Toronto and it is definitely better then any of the Japanese Buffets in KL.

Have you ever try Ten-Ichi @ Scarborough for AYCE? I'd recommend it over Akina. Also, mind telling me which camera/lens are you using? Your food pics are all great and I really enjoy reading your blog. :)
