There were three things I wanted to do when I was in Vienna. First was to dine at Steirereck, second to stay at the Famous Hotel Imperial and third to sample the world famous Sacher Torte at Hotel Sacher!
For those of you who are not familiar with the Sacher Torte, it is Austria's most famous cake and considered by many to be the mother of all Chocolate Cakes. You could even find more information about the Torte on Wikipedia.
The Cafe at Hotel Sacher does not only serve the famous Torte. There are other cakes and main entrees that one could order including Viennese Coffee. There is also a boutique where one could buy the Torte home in various gift packagings.
Sacher Torte
Our cake arrived together with a big dollop of Whipped Cream. It looks really simple compared to the other cakes I've had. It was just two dark chocolate sponge and a thin layer of apricot jam right in the middle with dark chocolate icing. To me the cake was rather dry and went much better with the whipped cream. I did however enjoy the flavor of the cake. It's more sour than sweet which surprisingly goes well with the chocolaty flavor of the cake
Original Sacher Coffee
This is one strong coffee. It tasted like an Espresso shot but with a lot of whip cream. Drinking the entire cup really made me full because half the cup contained the whipped cream
