Butter Crabs @ Restoran King Crab

It was my friend’s first night in KL and we wanted to take him out for some seafood. I usually frequent Weng Fatt or Fatty Crab but this time round we went to King Crab.

King Crab

Yes I am slow. Most KL food bloggers have blogged about King Crab and many have done so a couple of years back. As a matter of fact my decision to try King Crab out was based on the blogs I read.

The setting is much smaller than Pantai Seafood or Weng Fatt and was packed. There were only a few fish tanks with not much crabs or fishes inside. We ordered a variety of dishes that were recommended by the waitress and the food arrived quickly.

Kum Heong Lala was ok. The sauce was very fragrant and packed quite a bit of curry powder but the lala did not have much meat in it.

BBQ Fish was also recommended and we went with it having heard that it is not offered in most other seafood restaurants. The method of cooking was the same Thailand’s Salt-Baked Snake Head fish but here they used tilapia. The fish was very moist and did not taste like mud. It was pretty good.

Claypot Butter Crabs came next. The crabs were really juicy and sweet but personally I felt the butter sauce was a little mild compared with Fatty Crab’s chili crab or Thailand’s curry crab.

The Braised Pork Knuckle was quite good. The entire knuckle was braised till the meat was falling off the bone and the fat literally melts in your mouth. The nam yue sauce was really good especially with rice and the deep-fried mantou, which, we also used to mop the butter crab sauce

Our last course was braised yee mee. The noodles had a nice springy texture and were coated well with the delicious soy-based gravy.

Overall the food was quite good. But if I were to pick between Weng Fatt and King Crab I would rather go to Weng Fatt since it’s closer to where I live and has a wider variety of seafood.
