Thai Food @ Smooth Curry

Tonight we decided to eat a little early for once and try our Hotel's Thai Restaurant Smooth Curry. Why eat early and in our hotel? Well for a variety of reasons of course... First, I had a meeting at 8pm. Second our Hotel has five award winning restaurants and we only tried one of them. Third it was pouring in Bangkok and May didn't want to go out.

Smooth Curry

Arriving at the restaurant around 6pm we had the whole place to ourselves and the entire waiting staff tending to our needs! Our friendly waitress helped us with our order and within a five minutes everything started coming out.

Complimentary Drinks
Complimentary House Drinks
From Left: Roselle, Tangerine, Lemongrass and Longan. Served chilled the drinks were very refreshing. I liked how they were sorted from non-sweet (Roselle) to sweet (Longan). My favorite was the longan which actually had a longan meat inside.

Amouse Bouche: Deep Fried Prawn with Tamarind Sauce
Amouse Bouche: Cripsy Fried Prawns with Tamarind Sauce
This was a very nice palate teaser. The prawn was really crispy and the meat was a little under-cook to maintain it's moisture and bouncy texture. The tamarind sauce was a nice balance between sweet and sour.

Grilled Chicken Skewers
Grilled Chicken
This is a favorite of mine and the last time I had this type of grilled chicken was in Trang. The chicken was really moist and tender. What made it really good was the delicious sauce that was basted on it. A little sweet and salty with a nice touch of garlic. Think of it as Garlic Char Siew Sauce mixed with some BBQ sauce

Som Tam
Som Tam
This was a really good Som Tam. We asked for less sugar and more lime and they did exactly that. The papaya was really fresh and crunchy and the toasted peanuts and cashew nuts were intentionally left whole which gave it a very nice texture.

Gaeng Som
Gaeng Som:
This is the only Gaeng Som where I could actually eat without burning my tongue. The Gaeng Som was very light and watery compared to other places and wasn't too sour or sweet. They used minced prawns but I would have preferred the use of whole prawns.

Green Chicken Curry with Kanom Jin (Fermented Rice Noodles)
Chicken Green Curry
Fermented Rice Noodles
This was the only bad dish we had. The green curry wasn't thick and the chicken breast was a little dry. It lacked that herb taste which I usually get when eating green curry. The curry is suppose to be eaten with the delicious Kanom Jin which is one of the softest noodles I've ever had.

Stir-Fry Greens
Stir-Fry Greens
We asked for less oil but seeing the amount of gloss this didn't happen. The greens had a nice crunch and was very fragrant from the garlic and oyster sauce.

Pla Neung Manow
Pla Neung Manow
This was one of the best steamed sea bass with lime sauce I've had. The fish was perfectly steamed but more importantly the sauce had a good balance. It wasn't too sweet, salty nor sour and had the right amount of heat for my tongue. We devoured everything including the head.

To sum up this was a very good Thai Meal. The service was great and to top it off our bill only came up to THB 1300 after 50% discount as a Starwood Privilege Member.
