Som Tam @ Hai Som Tam

It was lunch time and May was craving for some Som Tam. We were planning to buy some from a cart vendor but stumbled upon "Hai Som Tam" while walking around Soi Convent.

The menu was simple offering a variety of Som Tam dishes, Grilled Meats and Larb (Thai Meat or Seafood Salad). Out of fermented crabs, we ordered the regular Som Tam which was a little too sweet and not sour for our liking. It didn't pack much heat either making me feel as though they served a watered down version.

We also had some decent Grilled Chicken. The marinade was a little sweet and had a nice lemongrass and coriander root flavor. The only thing I disliked was the chicken being served cold rather than hot.

The Grilled Pork Neck was tender but a little bland. It was also served cold like the chicken.

I also ordered my favorite Grilled Thai Sausage (Sai Krok). Thai Sausages are usually made with beef or pork, glutinous rice, basil, ginger, lemongrass and galangal. Hai Som Tam's sausages lacked flavor and was dry and a little chewy.

Last but not least we had some sticky rice to go with our meal. The texture was good with the rice not being too dry or hard. It was quite tasty when we dipped it in the dipping sauce of the grilled meats.
