Lemongrass Restaurant

After a month in KL, I’m back in Toronto for about 3 weeks. After work my colleagues and I went to Lemongrass for dinner. Although it’s a Vietnamese restaurant, Lemongrass also serves dishes from Malaysia and Thailand.

We were really hungry and ordered quite a few dishes for 5 people. Our first appetizer was the Avocado and Prawn Roll. Many Vietnamese restaurants have this but I think this place serves it the best. The prawns were fresh and more importantly the rice paper wasn’t dry and chewy like other places.

May ordered the Mango Salad with Prawns. Although not as good as Som Tam (Thai Papaya Salad) the mangoes were sour and had a good crunch to it.

This is our final healthy dish, Baby Bok Choy that is just blanched. As simple as it may sound it is hard to get it right since many places would tend to overcook the vegetable leaving it limp which is what happened with ours.

For our mains we had Grilled Chicken with Nam Yue (preserved bean curd) Sauce. All of us liked this dish a lot. The chicken was juicy and the flavor of the sauce really went well with it.

Another good dish was the Char-Grilled Pork Neck. The lemongrass marinade was really good and also made the pork neck very tender.

We also ordered the Vietnamese Braised Beef Brisket Curry with fresh baked bread. As a Malaysian, the curry was not to my liking. It was a little too watery and had not much flavor.
The beef however was tender and the bread was excellent. I just wished I could have used the bread for a Malaysian curry.

Our last dish was the Braised Sting-Ray in Clay Pot. The sting ray was first deep fried and then braised in a clay pot. It was good but not great.

The meal cost us CAD $84 including taxes and gratuity. For such a price with so many good dishes this is a place I would definitely visit again when I crave some South East Asian Food.
