Saturday Brunch at Iketeru, KL Hilton

It was our second last day before we head back to Toronto and I finally had the chance to try Iketeru's Weekend Buffet. I've had a few Japanese Buffets in KL but most don't compare with Toronto in terms of the freshness and quality of the food relative to the price.

Prior to our first order we were given a trio of mini-appetizers (amouse bouche). Nothing much to rave about here. What was weird was the serving of a mini cheese cake prior to our dessert.

At Iketeru the fish also wasn't as fresh. At just RM99 it's quite obvious that the fish used wasn't "A" grade. Our salmon was quite limp and the hamachi had a very fishy taste to it.

Our Prawn Tempura was very crispy but it had a bad aftertaste from the recycled oil that used to fry it. I thought it was just me but everyone else that had it also had the same problem.

We had a few appetizers. Worth noting was the Sesame Tofu which was very silky smooth and creamy. There was definitely a lot of sesame which is what I liked!

Another was the Eggplant with a Miso and Meat sauce. I really liked the Miso Flavor which wasn't too salty for the Eggplant.

Appetizers such as Boiled Spinach, Crab Meat Salad, Potato Salad and Pickled Leeks were so-so. Nothing much to rave about.

Steamed dishes we liked was the Cod Fish, Salmon Fish Head Soup and Oden. The flavor of the Cod Fish was well drawn out and the soup was very hearty.

Other dishes we had was the Baked Scallop with Cheese and Seafood Pancake. I really liked the pancake. It was crispy on the outside and had a lot of seafood packed inside it.

We were nearly stuffed from the dishes we ordered and soon after a huge plate of chicken, prawns, scallops, beef and lamb Teppanyaki arrived. Everything was well-seasoned and the beef in particular was cooked to nice medium-rare.
Last but not least we ordered two different desserts. The Rice Cake with Soy Bean Powder which we all didn't really enjoy and Green Tea and Sesame Ice Cream with Red Bean.

Overall, the cooked food of the restaurant was very good. However we did wish the Sashimi and Sushi would be equally good. This maybe because of the cost involved in serving high quality fish when it's all-you-can-eat for only RM99.
