Dim Sum @ LAYTRANG CLUB (Trang Day 2)

Dim Sum is very popular in Trang due to the large Chinese population. Within the city center one could see Dim Sum being served in specialty Dim Sum restaurants and also coffee shops.

This trip we had our Dim Sum at the newly opened Laytrang Club which boast a nice outdoor patio that reminded us of a European Cafe.

Restaurant Ambience

Ordering was very simply. All you need to do is head to the counter and pick the different dishes you like and it will be cooked to order.

Fresh Steamer

There was also a wide variety to choose from. Although the Dim Sum dishes are influenced from Hong Kong most are made with a local twist.

We were five hungry people and ordered quite a number of dishes...

Crab Meat Siu Mai and Pork Siu Mai

Crabmeat Siu Mai
Their Siu Mai was actually pretty good. It had quite a bit of pork fat which gave it a lot flavor and a nice springy texture

Shrimp Dumpling (Har Kow)
Shrimp Dumpling
Their shrimp dumpling may not look like the regular shrimp dumplings served in Cantonese Restaurants but it tasted very good. The prawns were sweet and fresh and the skin was very soft

Rice Noodle with BBQ Pork
BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll
This classic Dim Sum dish is given a little twist. The rice noodle is a little more glutinous and chewy in texture. The BBQ pork is also a little sweeter than the usual HK version

BBQ Pork Bun and Minced Pork Bun

Pork Bun
The BBQ pork filling was quite nice. The bun however wasn't as soft as I'd like. I still think Malaysian Dim Sum restaurants make the best buns

Fried Spring Rolls
Spring Rolls
The spring roll was very crispy but a little oily

Pan-Fried Turnip Cake
Pan Fried Turnip Cake
The turnip cake is definitely different from what I'm used to eating. It is quite dense and had a texture similar to Ma Lai Kuih

Deep Fried Crab Dumpling

This was super good! The dumpling was really crispy and had a lot of crab meat. The crab was moist and very sweet. It was amazing with their sweet chili sauce!

Minced Pork Congee
Minced Pork Congee
The congee was pretty good especially the minced pork which had a nice balance between meat and fat

Overall the food was very good. They had a good variety of Dim Sum dishes and everything was very fresh. I definitely enjoyed this meal especially with the great weather and ambiance.
