My family and I celebrated our first meal of 2010 at Restaurant Fatty Crab. For over two decades Fatty Crab has managed to draw in a steady stream of loyal and new customers who come to sample their crab dishes. Therefore it is highly recommended to come in early during the weekends to make sure you get a table.
Their famous Spicy and Sour Crab still hits the spot especially the sauce where we ordered a plate of toasted bread to mop it up.
Steam Crabs was another winner. This simple dish was my favorite as it highlighted what good crabs should taste like: sweet, succulent and moist.
The chicken wings were also really good. It had a good amount of meat and was very juicy. I don’t know what marinade they used but it was really tasty.
The Teochew Steam Fish and Steam Prawns however were a little disappointing. The sauce of the steam fish was a little too sour for my liking and the prawns were a little overcooked making it rubbery and chewy.
The Beef and Chicken Satay wasn’t very good either with the chicken being a little too lean and dry.
Other dishes we had that were not bad included their Fried Rice and Century Eggs.
Overall I was happy with my meal tonight. Despite some mediocre dishes we came specifically for the crabs and they were excellent. I did not pay for the bill but overheard that it totaled around RM 300++ for everything we had.
