I've heard many positive comments about de Foodland's crabs and decided to give it a try tonight.
Based on Zhao Phin's recommendation we ordered their Butter Crabs. This is my second time having butter crabs and it was pretty good. In my opinion the star wasn't so much the crab but the delicious creamy and buttery sauce. Don't get me wrong the crabs were meaty and sweet but the gravy was so good we couldn't help but ordered two servings of Deep Fried Mantao to mop it up.
I also ordered a Fei Chow (Tilapia) Fish that is simply steamed with soy sauce. The Tilapia was very fresh and did not have any muddy flavor that is usually associated with fresh water fish.
Their Braised Tofu was also really good. The tofu was soft and silky and went well with the oyster sauce and mixed mushrooms.
For vegetables we had some Stir-Fried String Beans with Roasted Pork. The beans had a nice crunch but was a little too salty for my liking.
The only disappointing dish we had was the Steamed Prawns with Egg White. The prawns were way overcooked making it very mushy. The manager apologized and immediately gave us a 50% discount when we gave her some feedback on their dishes. This definitely showed us how much they cared about their food and service.
Overall the food was quite good at de Foodland. The gravy from the butter crabs is definitely something I would come back for again.
