The year of the Dragon is finally here and I am back in KL to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family and friends! We celebrated the most important meal "The Reunion" dinner this year at Ee Cuisine in Eastin Hotel. Like many other Chinese Restaurants in KL, ala Carte menu was not an option as diners had to pick from a number of Set Menus that are "Auspiciously Priced".
Gold Leaf, Tuna and Caviar Yee Sang
I had such high expectation for this Yee Sang and was expecting Tuna Belly and Black Caviar. To my disappointed we were served regular Tuna Sashimi and Flying Fish Eggs. The Yee Sang overall was decent.
Charcoal Roasted Suckling Pig
The Suckling Pig was quite good. It was crispy but was not shatteringly crispy as my favorite "Full Wealth Restaurant" which in my opinion is still king of Suckling Pig.
Double Boiled Shark's Fin with Shark's Bone Soup
The peppery broth was milky from the long hours of boiling the soup. The Fin had a nice texture.
Steamed Giant Century Garoupa with Beancurd Skin in Soya Sauce
The fish had a nice meaty texture and was steamed just right with the Soy Sauce not being too salty.
Combinations Two Varieties Fresh Scallops served with Yam Basket
The worse dish of the night. The Scallops Stir-Fried with assorted vegetables was decent but the Deep-Fried Scallop Rolls were chewy and cold.
Braised Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber and Dried Oyster with 'Tian Jin' Cabbage
The Cabbage was very sweet and tender and I liked the flavor combination of the Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber and Tofu Puff.
Fried Fragrant Rice with Wax Meats
This was good. But again for such an expensive menu I was hoping for "Lap Mei" Rice and not a simple dish such as this.
Deep Fried Sesame Balls filled with Peanut Butter
The Sesame Balls was a little cold and the Peanut Butter filling was still solid inside. I would have liked it to be melted which would have given it a nice contrast in texture.
Deep Fried Nian Gao
The Nian Gao was really good. The batter was very light and crispy and the Nian Gao was very soft and gooey.
Sweetened Sweet Corn with Pumpkin Puree
The combination of Pumpkin Puree and Sweetened Corn did not really work well with me. Most of us did not finish this dessert soup.
For the price I was really expecting a lot more from the dishes we had at Ee Cuisine. Most of the dishes were traditional Cantonese Dishes that tasted above average. I was definitely expecting a lot more from Ee especially when the restaurant was only doing one service per table for the night.
