Seafood Feast @ Xi Dian Hai Xian Lou

For our last night in Ningbo our colleagues took us to a Seafood Restaurant that offer dishes from various regions of China with an emphasis on local Seafood. We left the food to our local colleagues who did not disappoint with the number of dishes ordered.

Baked Oysters
Baked Oysters
These were Baby Oysters and again were just simply baked in the oven without anything done to it. The Flavor was quite good with the salt drawing out the natural flavor of the salt.

Baked Baby Neck Clams

A Ningbo Specialty. The Clams were really fresh and simply baked in a Salt Crust.

Steam Mantao with Minced Vegetables
Steamed Buns

The Mantao was really soft and was good with the Minced Vegetables although it was a little oily.

Baby Potatoes
Baby Potatoes
I think these were fried and then tossed in a Sugar and Soy-Sauce. It was very good. Potatoes were soft but not too starchy. Had a nice bite.

Chicken wrapped in Lotus Leaf

This was good. The Chicken Seasoning was similar to KFC and was baked till the meat was super soft and tender.

Stir-Fry Clams

The Clams were meaty and fresh. It was simply sautéed with Spring Onions and Ginger.

Boiled Shrimp in Salt Water
Boiled Shrimp in Salt Water:
A Ningbo Style of Eating Seafood where the Shrimps are just boiled in Salted Water allowing one to taste the freshness of the Prawns.

Steamed Crab with Onion Oil and Soy Sauce
Steamed Crab with Onion Oil and Soy Sauce
A simple but delicious way of eating their local crabs. The crab was meaty and its roe was really rich. The onion oil that was drizzled over the Crab made it very aromatic.

Steamed Local River Fish in Light Soy Sauce
Steam Local Ningbo Fish

Local Fish in Pickle Vegetable Soup
Local Fish in Pickled Vegetable Broth
The fish had a flaky texture and contained quite a number of small bones. I thoroughly enjoyed the sour and salty Pickled Vegetable Soup.

Cauliflower Hot Pot
Cauliflower Hotpot
The Cauliflower was sauteed with Beancurd and Fatty Pork Slices. Was very fragrant from the use of some Szechuan Peppercorns which also gave it a little bit of heat.

Even though there were 8 people we were completely stuffed from the amount of dishes we ordered. The Seafood Dishes we had used minimal ingredients and sauces which allowed the freshness of the Seafood to stand out.
