Hainanese Chicken Rice @ Kim Po Vietnamese Restaurant

Located near my office, Kim Po Vietnamese Restaurant is one of my places for lunch during my work week. The food is cheap, fast and they serve up one of the best Hainanese Chicken Rice in Toronto.

Kim Po's Chicken is very tender and juicy. It is topped with a Soy Sauce mixture and chopped scallions and is served with minced ginger and their own chili sauce blend. The Rice is also pretty good both in flavor and texture. It doesn't clump together and is quite fragrant.

This was their soup of the day that comes with the Hainanese Chicken Rice as part of a Combo. The soup was rather bland.

Another dish I usually order together with my Chicken Rice. The Pork Neck tastes similar to Malaysian style Char Siew. It also has a charred exterior giving it a slight crunch

Lunch @ Restoran DU Cafe, Kota Damansara

Coming out of our factory we decided to stop by Restorn DU Cafe at the Strand in Kota Damansara for a quick lunch. This place is usually packed at night with a wide number of food stalls offering Satay, O-Chien (Oyster Pancake) to Porridge. However during lunch our choices were quite limited.

Bolly and Kim shared a platter of Roast Chicken, Siu Yoke (Roast Pork) and BBQ Pork together with rice. I tried some of each and they were not very good. The chicken wasn't as flavorful and the BBQ Pork was very hard.

I ordered a satisfying Pork Noodle Soup. My mix noodles of vermicelli and ho fan were very silky smooth and soft and was easy to slurp down together with the flavorful soup. The pork meat, pork balls and crispy fried pork lard were also excellent complements to the noodles.

Still hungry, Kim ordered a plate of Wonton Noodles. The noodles had a nice bouncy and texture and the Char Siew was actually better than the Assorted BBQ platter we just had.

Overall the Wonton Noodles and Pork Noodle Soup is very good and worth coming here for whenever you are around the area. As for Chicken Rice I would highly recommend going to "Tasty Chicken Rice" which is just a few meters away.

Famous Chicken Rice @ Sin Kee (Singapore Day 2)

We met up with Eric's uncle today who took us to his favorite Chicken Rice Stall at the Mei Ling Street Food Centre.

Out of the trinity (Rice, Chicken and Chili Sauce) I would say the rice was their strength. The texture of the rice was what I like it to be fluffy and not clumped together. The flavor of the rice was also very good.

Overall Sin Kee definitely serves up a good Chicken Rice but I wouldn't say that it is way better than most of the other "famous" chicken rice stores that I have eaten at.

Tasty Chicken Rice

Located at "The Strand" in Kota Damansara Tasty Chicken Rice is one of my favorite Chicken Rice Stalls. Newspaper clippings on the restaurant's wall lay claim to why this place is good. The owner apparently spent three years perfecting his Chicken Rice and was the 2007 Hainan Chicken Rice Champion.

Restaurant

In addition to Chicken Rice the restaurant also serves Char Siew (BBQ Pork), Braised Kai Choy (Sour Vegetables), Bean Sprouts, Stewed Chicken Feet, Chicken in with Noodle Soup and Pork Balls.

Chicken and Charsiew Hanging Out

The steam chicken was quite good. Being a "Kampung Chicken" it had a lot of flavor and was very lean. The only downside was the breast portion was a little chewy.

Char Siew was mediocre. It wasn't as caramerlized as we liked and a little on the lean side.

Char Siew (BBQ Pork)

Our rice however was the star of the show. The rice was fluffy and wasn't soggy. Every individual grain was very fragrant from the chicken stock and other ingredients used to cook it. The owner only endorses the brand "Jasmine" for his rice.

Delicious Chicken Rice

For sides we had my favorite pork balls and blanched bean sprouts. The pork balls were good and had a nice bouncy texture.
