Old School Thai Food @ SaNguan Sri, Bangkok
I've stayed in Plaza Athenee, Bangkok a few times and have always wanted to try this small restaurant that's right next to the Hotel on Wireless Road. This trip we made it a point to pay this place a visit. The menu was very simple offering a number of Thai and Thai-Chinese dishes. Hungry, we ordered a number of items to try.
Yum Woon Sen

Their Yum Woon Sen was really good. There was a nice acidic flavor to the lime.
Yum Neur

I loved their Beef Salad. The combination of Mint, Onions, Lime, Chili and Beef just goes so well together.
Yum Hoy Nang Lum

The Oyster Salad was also really good. Like the two other salads above the combination of parsley, onions, cabbage, oysters, lime and fish sauce was really refreshing.
Tom Kha Gai

A favorite of mine. The soup was very sour and had the right amount of heat. The flavor of the lemongrass was prominent.
Tom Yum

Their Tom Yam is a clear soup version and was very sour and spicy the way we liked it.
Moo Kra Pow

Their Moo Kra Pow was so-so. I wished the Basil flavor was a little more pronouced.
Moo Pad Prik

Their Moo Pad Prik tasted similar to Moo Kra Pow except that it's got chillies. I wished the Basil Flavor was more pronounced.
Minced Pork Omelet

The Omelet was pretty fluffy and had some nice minced pork.
Pork Panaeng Curry

The Pork was very tender and the Curry tasted more like our Peanut Satay Sauce.
Braised Pork in Soy Sauce

This wasn't very good. The Pork was overcooked and dry. The gravy was also very sweet
Overall we enjoyed the food. The food tasted more like a home-cooked meal than from a restaurant which maybe why it's so popular among locals.

Som Tam & More @ Som Tam Nua, Bangkok
Located in Siam Plaza Som Tam Nua is a popular restaurant among locals and tourists for their Som Tam. The restaurant also feature a number of North Eastern Thai Food such as Grilled Meats and other Thai Salads. After waiting for 30 minutes we finally got our seats.

Som Tam

The Som Tam was a little too sweet for our liking. Maybe it's because they thought we were tourists.
Grilled Beef

Yum Woon Sen

The Yum Woon Sen wasn't as sour as I would have liked it to be
Grilled Pork Neck

The Grilled Pork Neck was quite good. The Fish Sauce Marinade went well with the Pork
Thai Sausage

Not a favorite of mine. It was very dry from being deep fried.
Fried Chicken Wings

My favorite of everything we had. The Chicken Drumettes were crunchy and had a pungent fried Garlic Flavor

Lunch @ Gaggans, Bangkok
I've heard a lot about Gaggan's progressive Indian Cuisine and how its taken Bangkok's Fine Dining Scene by storm. As such we were lucky enough to get a reservation for 2pm on my recent visit to Bangkok with a group of my friends. We were seated at the chef's table which gave us a full view of the Kitchen and how the chefs work their molecular cuisine.

We were all hoping to try Gaggan's tasting menu but had to settle for their set lunch menu because the Tasting was only offered at night.
Amuse Bouche: Egg but not Egg

Our Amouse Bouche came in the form of a White Gelatin Capsule that was suppose to taste like Egg but was made from Yogurt. The mock egg actually mimicked the flavor of poached Egg Yolk
Umami Oysters

Soft Shell Crab

The Crab was tender and crispy. The sauce tasted similar to a Sweet and Sour Sauce but with a hint of spicyness.
Truffle Mushroom Soup

The Soup had a light and creamy texture and had a very nice concentrated but clean Mushroom Flavor.
Risotto

The Risotto had a pretty nice Al Dente Texture and was very rich and creamy.
Chicken Tikka Masala

The Chicken was very tender and the Masala Gravy was rich and had the right amount of heat.
Fish Curry

I'm not sure what type of Curry it was but it was very good with the Fish. It was spicy but had a nice Tamarind flavor giving it a sour accent.
Naan

The Naan was really good. It had a nice crisp exterior and was fluffy on the inside. We were served both Garlic and Original Naan.
Aerated Chocolate Mousse

I actually really enjoyed this dessert. The Chocolate and White Chocolate Mousse had an intense flavor but the texture was really light.
We all felt the food at Gaggan's was good but it wasn't extraordinary. We hoped to try his more creative dishes but given we came during lunch the mene was obviously catered towards the business crowd which meant offering straight forward dishes at an affordable price. I definitely hope to visit Gaggan's again but this time for Dinner.

Excellent Yakiniku @ Stamina-En, Bangkok
My recent trips to Bangkok saw me frequenting the same restaurants until my recent trip. My cousin until recently when my cousin took me to his new favorite Yakiniku Restaurant called Stamina-En in Thonglor.

Assorted Kim-Chi

Korean Style Cold Noodles

Melt in your mouth Beef

I have no idea what cut this is but it was ridiculously marbled and flavorful. The meat literally melts in your mouth.
Marinated Bulgolgi

The Bulgolgi was thinly sliced and melts in your mouth and the marinade wasn't too sweet.
Marinated Beef Ribs

Beef Tongue

The Beef Tongue was quite good. It had a nice marbling and was cut thick.
Bacon

Pork Platter

Our Pork Platter consisted of Pork Sausage, Pork Neck and Spicy Marinated Pork.
Marinated Pork Neck

One of my favorite Pork Cuts. The Neck had a nice combination of streaky fat and meat.
Baked Salmon

A typical way of eating Salmon to avoid it sticking to the grill. The Salmon was very moist from being steamed inside the foil and was excellent with the lime and butter.
The Beef and Pork at Stamina-En were excellent! The only thing I have wished is for the restaurant to use a Charcoal Grill instead of Gas. It is easily one of my favorite Yakiniku restaurant I've had outside of Japan.

Refined Thai Cuisine @ Baan Khanitta & Gallery, Bangkok
We decided to try visit Baan Khanita after hearing it was consistently ranked as one of Thailand's Best Restaurants by Thailand Tatler nearly every year. The restaurant specializes in Royal Thai Cuisine and is known not only for its Food but also its rustic Thai Interior. The menu is quite extensive featuring a number of Thai Dishes from different provinces.
Miang Kham
Our meal started with a complimentary appetizer of Miang Kham. The proper way to eat it is to wrap the Betel Leaf with some Dried Shrimps, Lime Slices, Toasted Coconut, Peanuts and Palm Sugar.
Yam Sam-O (Pomelo Salad)
One of my favorite Thai Salad that balances between sweet, sour and salty. The one here uses ample Pomelo Chunks and shredded Chicken Meat. We asked for mild Spicy because Wayne's parents could not handle the heat.
Neur Yang (Thai Grilled Beef)
This was really good! Their Grilled Beef was cooked medium and was really flavorful from the marinade. It had the right amount of meat and fat.
Tiger Prawn Pad Thai
The Tiger Prawns were huge and went well with the Tamarind Sauce from the Pad-Thai. The Pad-Thai was the way I like it, a little sweet, sour and not too oily.
Green Chicken Curry
A signature of this restaurant. The Curry was thick from the Coconut Cream and contained a lot of Thai Egg Plants. It was very fragrant and went well with White Rice.
Baked Fish in Banana Leaf
The Fish was baked in a chili paste marinade. I liked the flavor of the Marinade which had some Coconut Cream mixed into it but didn't quite enjoy the rough texture of the fish.
Pad Krapao
A popular Thai Street Food Dish. The Basil flavor was well accentuated with this spicy dish. It was a little salty which was great when eaten with rice but not alone.
Glass Noodle Soup with Minced Pork
Dark Chocolate Souffle
One of the best Souffle's I've had. The Souffle was warm, light and fluffy. The bitter dark chocolate went so well with the Vanilla Ice Cream.
Mango and Sticky Rice
The Mango's were really sweet and went well with the Sticky Rice which had a nice Coconut Milk Flavor. The texture of the rice was just right. It wasn't too wet like many others I've tried.
Water Chestnut Dessert Soup
The Coconut Milk had a nice Jasmine scent to it and was good with the crispy Water Chestnut. It wasn't too sweet and also contained chunks of Jack Fruit. A refreshing Dessert.
The Thai Dishes at Baan Khanita were very good although some people might find it a tad bit pricey. My favorite however, was their desserts especially their Dark Chocolate Souffle. Even though it's not Thai they make one of the best Souffle's I've had. Anyone looking for some good Thai Food with an environment to match should give this place a try.
