Frankfurt Cuisine @ FichteKranzi, Frankfurt

Opened in 1849, FichteKraenzi is one of the oldest Apple Wine Restaurants in Frankfurt City. The restaurant specializes in serving local Frankfurt favorites in addition to some regional German and International Dishes for non-locals.

I enjoyed the onions soup. The cheese was gooey and the broth was full bodied.

Salad with Chicken Fillet

This was my main course. The Chicken was quite tender and the Yogurt dressing melded well with the fresh Lettuce, Tomatoes and Endives. I liked how the bean sprouts adds a nice crunch to the salad.

I really liked the Green Sauce which is usually made from an assortment of herbs, eggs and sour cream. The sauce complemented the tender beef.

Rotisserie Chicken @ Safari Grill, Frankfurt

I've always wondered if the Rotisserie Chicken at Safari Grill was any good. Every time I would visit Frankfurt we would pass by Safari Grill watching their chickens turn as it is slowly being roasted in the Rotisserie. It looked really mouth watering but we've always decided to eat somewhere else. This trip round we decided to give the place a try for lunch.

The Chicken was a little disappointing. It was dry and a too salty. I still prefer the Rotisserie Chicken at Score's in Montreal which are really juicy and salted just right. I did however enjoy the Salad whose sweet and tangy yogurt dressing went well with the mixed greens.

Rump Steak @ Romer Platz

My work saw me in Frankfurt for only two days. Despite my short visit we managed to squeeze some time to visit the touristy Romerplatz where my nephew and I had a quick dinner at one of the Beer Houses.

I don't recall having Rump in the form of Steak and I must say it was quite good. The steak was extremely lean and meaty but it was very flavorful. Cooking it Medium Rare also helped the texture.

Sausage Platter

My nephew's Sausage Platter on the other hand was so-so for me. I prefer the meatier Bratwurst served in Munich over the skinnier Frankfurters.

Breakfast Buffet @ Le Meridien Park Hotel, Frankfurt

We were back in Frankfurt again for a couple of days and decided to have breakfast at our Hotel's main restaurant. The Buffet selection hasn't changed since the last four times we've been here but the quality of the ingredients makes up for it a little bit.

Eating around Frankfurt!

After having a really expensive but mediocre meal at G Buzzano, Bali and I decided to try out simpler foods during our next two days in Frankfurt having Vietnamese to Flammkuchen!

Pho @ Pho 79
Pho 79
The Pho here may not have all the usual ingredients of a typical but it was decent. The Bean Sprouts were a little stale and the use of Basil and Lime was substituted with Parsley and Lemon

Spiesbraten @ IAA

Schweinebraten
Three years in a row I ate at this stall for their Spiesbraten at Messe Frankfurt and it is still good! This is to me is lunch for Champions. Flavorful Pork Shoulder braised with Onions and served with two slices of German Rolls.

Macarons @ Imori Patisserie
Green Tea Macaron
We stumbled upon this little Pastry Shop while walking around Romer Platz. The Macarons had a nice flavor but the texture was a little bit too chewy for my liking.

Grilled Sausages and Flammkuchen @ Street Food Stalls along The Zeil
Huge Bratwurst Grill
Sausage on a Bun
Flammkuchen
There were a ton of Food Stalls celebrating Oktoberfest along the Zeil. The Sausage was really good but the Flammkuchen was only so-so.

Hotpot Buffet @ Yan Jing
Yan Jing, Japanese and Hot Pot Buffet
Hot Pot Soup Base
Fresh Lamb Slices
The only Hotpot I've ever had in Germany. The Lamb meat was exceptionally good but the beef and other meats and seafood were not very fresh. Overall good value since it was all you can eat for 20 Euros.

Dry Aged Porter House Steak @ G Buzzano, Frankfurt

I'm back in Frankfurt again for a couple of days to attend the IAA Convention. Traveling alone, my friend Balazs decided to visit me in Frankfurt for a night where I took him around Frankfurt for a quick tour around the City Center.

G Buzzano

I was craving for some good Scwheinebraten but settled for a meal at an Italian Steak House called G Buzzano because Balazs was sick of Pork after living in Munich for several years.

Although G Buzzano is an Italian Steak House the steaks they serve are USDA Prime Steaks which was quite a relief for me because I've never heard of Prime Beef coming out of Italy or Germany.

Olives and Bread
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Olives
Bread
The serving of Olives and Warm Bread was a very traditional way of starting our meal at a Steak House. This definitely kept our hopes high as we wait in anticipation for our Steak!

House Salad
House Salad
This was such a simple but excellent Salad of Fresh Field Greens and Balsamic Vinaigrette! The Greens were light and crisp and the dressing had a nice balance of sweet and acidity

Truffled Mash Potatoes
Truffled Mash Potatoes
The Truffle Mash had a really nice buttery flavor that was complemented by the earthy flavor of the White Truffles. The consistency however was not very fluffy.

Dry Aged Porter House Steak for two
Dry Aged Porter House Steak for two
Our Porter House Steak was very tender that almost melts in your mouth. The flavor however was disappointing for two reasons. First their so-called "Jus" was actually clarified butter which they poured all over our steaks making it too oily. Second the Steak was very under-salted.

Apple Tart
Apple Tart
I enjoyed the crumbly tart shell and also the filling of the Apple which wasn't overly too sweet.

Strawberry Tart
Strawberry Tart
Bali's favorite. The Strawberries had a nice balance between sweet and sour and was very soft in texture.

Overall I enjoyed the Salad the most at G Buzzano but was terribly disappointed with the expensive Porter House we ordered. Nothing is worse than having a chef destroy what would have been a perfect piece of Steak by under seasoning it...

32 Hours in Frankfurt!

My eating trip ended for three weeks as I had to detox from all the food that I had with Zhao Kun during August. The detox ended when Kim and I headed to Frankfurt for a Motor Convention spending only 36 hours in the city but managing to visit the entire exhibition and eat three complete meals.

Lunch @ Swiss Restaurant at Messe Frankfurt
Arriving at 6am, we checked in our Hotel took our shower and headed to Messe Frankfurt for the exhibition at 9am. The show wasn't as busy as it used to be indicating the Aftermarket Auto Industry is probably still recovering very slowly. Anyhow we got hungry around 1pm and had a quick bite at one of the Convention's many similar Restaurant.

Ham Salad
Ham Salad
Wanting to go healthy I chose the Salad. The salad contained slices of ham, tomatoes, croutons, cucumbers and butter leaf cabbage. Nothing spectacular

Goulash Soup
Goulash Soup
The Soup packed quite a strong Smoky and Spicy Paprika Flavor and contained a lot of beef chunks. It was however a little watery in consistency

Jaeger (Hunter's) Schnitzel
Jaeger Schnitzel
Kim's order that I tried. The Hunter's Sauce was really good. It was a brown gravy that is braised with chunks of Pork Shoulder Meat. The Schnitzel however wasn't made fresh so it was soggy and the super yellow mash potatoes was pretty creamy and good.

Dessert @ La Perla
After our 30 minute lunch we continued touring the exhibition till closing at 5pm. From there we headed to Romer Platz where I showed Kim around the surrounding area since it was his first time.

Since we were in Germany Kim wanted to try a Black Forest Cake and we had one at La Perla.

La Perla

The Black Forest Cake was mediocre. It did not contain as many Cherries as I'd hoped for and neither was the Kirsch Flavor very strong in the cream. I've had a really good one a couple of years back at Cafe Konig in Baden-Baden which was supposedly the place that invented the Black Forest Cake and it was way better than this.

Dinner @ Cafe Hauptewache
From Romer Platz we headed to the Shopping Area known as Zeil and had dinner at Cafe Hauptwache. The Cafe is situated along Hauptwache Platz along the Zeil Strip and has a Bistro Style Menu that includes Salads, Soups and some Frankfurt Classics.

Bread with Assorted Dips
Bread Basket
Herb Sauce Dip, Yogurt Dip and Anchovy Dip
You really can't go wrong with German Bread. Although it was served cold the Rye Bread was fluffy and had a nutty flavor from the seeds on the crust. The Dips came in three flavors; Herbs, Yoghurt and Anchovies. My favorite was the Anchovy Dip which tasted more like Tuna.

Roast Beef Salad
Roast Beef Salad
The Beef was cooked Medium as ordered but was a little chewy and over salted. The Greens were not as fresh. There were rust on some of them.

Frankfurter Sausage Plate
Frankfurter Sausage Plate
This was Kim's order. The platter came with an assorted Sausages with Bratwurst, Boiled Frankfurt Sausage and a Grilled Meat Sausage. The sausages were really good especially the Frankfurt Sausage which wasn't oily and went well with the Mustard and Potatoes

Overall the food at Cafe Hauptwache was not very good. Maybe it's because of the number of tourists eating there hence they were serving a watered down version of German Food.

Breakfast Buffet @ Le Meridien Park Hotel
The next day we had breakfast at our Hotel and headed back to the exhibition for a couple of hours before flying off at 2pm.

Le Meridien Park Hotel

The breakfast spread was simple offering your usual Bacon, Sausages, Cold Cuts, Pate, Breads, Cereal and an Egg Station.

Some Greens with Cold Cuts
Scrambled Egg Whites
Scrambled Eggs and Croissant
Bread with Pate
Cereal

The only thing I really enjoyed was the Cereal with Milk. The Breakfast Buffet was also quite expensive costing 20 Euros which maybe cheap in European Terms but expensive in Asia.
